
This training focuses on the causes and effects of cross-connection as well as the requirements for the installation,
testing, and repair of backflow prevention assemblies.
Upon successful completion of the training, you will be able to:
- Understand safety requirements when using the tools and equipment necessary to perform backflow device certification.
- Understand cross connection and backflow prevention definitions.
- Identify common cross connections and understand the importance of cross connection control and backflow prevention.
- Understand the conditions for backflow to occur including back siphonage and back pressure.
- Understand the UPC requirements as they relate to cross connection control and backflow prevention.
- Understand the Federal Safe Water Drinking Act of 1974 and amendments and its enforcement.
- Understand the provisions of the ABCWUA Cross Connection and Prevention Control Ordinance.
- Perform hazard assessments and identify hazard types.
- Conduct cross-connection control surveys.
- Develop a cross connection control program.
- Understand the testing and maintenance of backflow prevention devices.
- Use the USC List to determine approved installation.
- Understand and perform test reporting procedures.
- Identify types of backflow prevention devices and their applications.
- Understand thermal expansion and non-return devices.
- Select tools and equipment needed to perform backflow preventer testing and certification.
- Perform field test procedures on the Reduced Pressure Zone, Double Check Valve, Pressure Vacuum Breaker and Spill Resistant Vacuum Breaker backflow prevention devices.
- Perform maintenance and repair of Atmospheric Vacuum Breaker (AVB), Reduced Pressure (RP),Double Check Valve (DC), Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB) and Spill Resistant Vacuum Breaker (SVB) backflow preventer assemblies.
